Seventeen In Seventeen: A Bucket List

I’m not sure that I’m crazy about the whole “New Year New You” mentality. I’ve spent my whole life trying to make myself into someone else. And ever since I started to get to know Me, I’ve started to really like me and that’s not going to change. In fact I just keep falling deeper and deeper in love with me.

Some people like to start out the new year with resolutions. Some like to focus on one word that they’re going to try to embody more fully. Some say “to hell with it all” and just keep living their lives without taking stock and I admire that. I, personally, like to think ahead and write out a bucket list of sorts. It’s a mixture of all of it. Some things to look forward to, some new habits to implement, and some themes I want to amplify.

Best of 2016

There were a lot of horrible parts of 2016. We all know that. It’s not a secret. We’re good at remembering the crummy things that happened. But I think we need to do one last difficult thing that will be good for us before this year’s up. Let’s make a list of the best parts of 2016. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.
But before we start, here’s a curse-word-laced, completely, hilariously accurate list of the less than pleasant aspects because Matt Bellassai is so funny.

Christmas Tree Tour

Every year, my husband and I like to get an ornament or two that will represent something to remember that year by. I know I’m not the only one who does that. Lots of people do! I want to hear the stories.
When I post this to Facebook, I think it would be super fun if you could share a few photos of your favorite ornaments and tell me the stories behind them. Would you do that for me?

In 2016, we adopted Fiona and we’re so in love with her. It’s hard to believe she hasn’t always been here. She’s a bit of a mutt, so it was difficult to find an ornament that wasn’t a specific breed but we did our best.

Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts for Free (or Nearly Free)

Christmas can quickly devolve into a list of mindless obligations. You make the peanutbutter balls that you always make. You put up your tree, post it to Instagram with #betterlatethannever even though it’s not late at all and what is “late” anyway? You go to all the parties that you always go to. And soon enough, you’re buying all of these presents for the same people you always buy presents for. You stress yourself out and can’t wait for it all to be over with. It’s just a mindless deluge of crap that you don’t really care about.

Who wants that? It absolutely doesn’t need to be that way. These are made up rules that you’re definitely allowed to question and toss out the windows if you so decide.
